Tulane Students Joining HSPH

To the HSPH Community:

I write to let you know that the Harvard School of Public Health has joined an effort of the Association of Schools of Public Health and its member schools to provide alternative academic placements for Tulane students whose academic careers have been disrupted by the devastation in New Orleans. HSPH has opened 25 places for students from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and we are moving quickly to make arrangements for students to join fall semester classes. Tulane students have been notified of this offer and a number of students are already in touch with our admissions office.

The Admissions and Registrar"s offices will be working with Tulane students to identify courses that make their academic objectives. Students will be charged tuition at Tulane"s rate and the Office of Financial Aid will work with students individually to address financial aid issues. Tulane has agreed to accept all credits from accredited schools earned through this arrangement. We will also provide additional financial aid to those for whom Katrina has caused personal or family hardship.

There may be some international students among the group coming to Harvard. The International Office will work with these students to make sure that they remain eligible for student visas.

Those seeking additional information about these plans should contact Associate Dean Stan Hudson (shudson@hsph.harvard.edu).

I know that every member of our community will join me in welcoming these students and helping them persevere through this tragedy. We look forward to the recovery of New Orleans and Tulane and expect most of these students to resume their studies at Tulane when conditions permit.
